Islamabad (Health Desk): The alarming increase in HIV cases across the country, particularly in Taunsa, has reached the Parliament for discussion.
A call attention notice has been submitted in the Senate by Senator Sarmad Ali, seeking an explanation from the Federal Health Minister over the rising number of HIV cases.
The notice states that the increase in HIV cases in various parts of the country, including Islamabad, raises serious questions over public health management, and immediate and effective measures are essential to control its spread.
The senator has also demanded an urgent review of the performance of the National AIDS Control Program. The notice identifies unsafe medical practices, lack of proper screening, and absence of awareness as possible causes of the spread of the disease.
It further emphasizes that improving safe blood transfusion and testing facilities is a critical need of the hour, while a transparent and effective awareness campaign must be launched to prevent misinformation among the public.
The notice warns that if timely measures are not taken, the spread of HIV could become a serious challenge for the public health system.
